Can You Make Money Doing Surveys Online

Can You Make Money Doing Surveys Online?

Have you heard about the easy ways where you can spend a little of your time making money online through survey taking? Do you think this is legit or just another scam?

Do you think that all the websites and mobile apps that are advertising this money-making method are only using you to gather data while paying you pennies on the dollar? Or perhaps you have come across a platform that promises that if you put some time in, you will be able to make a steady income doing surveys?

Did you ever consider a work-from-home part-time job and just didn’t run into anything else easier to do than taking surveys? Well, I am here to tell you that there are a ton of jobs that you can probably take online and find better success than with surveys.

Survey taking is great for those who have nothing else to do and are only looking for pocket change to spend on small snacks. It is, however, much harder to earn a living income on just survey taking alone. I will be speaking about all of this and more in detail below.

How much can you make online through surveys?

I am not here to tell you that it is impossible to make money through survey taking. You definitely can make money, granted the amount you receive is so infinitesimal that you will definitely not feel that you are compensated enough for the amount of time you put into it.

There are a plethora of websites and mobile apps available now that advertise this money-making method and glorify it to the point that it makes it seem absurd that you are not getting in on the action! But truth be told, it is almost always a marketing gimmick done by these businesses to pull you in, offer you peanuts in exchange for research data that would probably end up being way more valuable to them than the amount of money you earned during your survey work with them.

Some examples of sites that offer these jobs are Branded surveys, Triaba, and Swagbucks. These sites tend to have multiple different types of jobs that you can do but the sole focus is on the survey-taking. If you are a school graduate and have nothing else to do in your free time, then this kind of work is probably good but for almost anyone else it tends to be a massive waste of time than you can put into something else that can generate more income for you in the long term.

But, if you are still interested in knowing more about how this works…

So, how DO I make money using survey job platforms?

Okay, so you have decided that you want to try this method and try to make some money. The steps are detailed below:

Sign up for a survey platform website

To get started, you should make a list of the top survey platforms you can find and register on all of them. Before you can start making money on these sites, you need to get verified on the site first which can take a couple of days.

You should also note that not all sites will accept your entry. Some sites have restrictions such as age and country of origin in place so you may not be able to get into any survey website out there. There are also a few that are exclusive and you can join only through an invitation from someone already on the site. These may actually be more legit than the others and you may find more success if you are able to join a site such as this.

Don’t leave your profile incomplete

Once you sign up, you will be asked a multitude of questions about yourself ranging from your basic details such as your age to the income group of your family. Once you complete this, you may either be accepted automatically or you will have to wait for someone to review it and get back to you.

Now you may complete surveys

There are two ways to get new surveys once you are accepted – Through browsing their website or by emails sent to you. The amount that you receive for every survey that you complete will vary depending on the platform you signed up for, how long it will take to complete, and the business that wants the survey completed.

You can also earn rewards in one of two ways. Either you will be paid directly for each survey (eg. $2 for a 45-minute survey) or you can accumulate points on the platform for each survey that will eventually convert to cash (eg. 10 points for every survey you take. You need 100 points to convert to a $15 reward).

Transfer the reward

Once you reach the limit that is placed on your rewards before you withdraw (every website will have differing amounts to reach before you can withdraw), you will be able to do a Paypal transaction and reap the benefits of the time you spent doing these surveys.

Do it every day!

Depending on the site, there is a limit that they place on the number of surveys you can do in a day as well. Therefore, once you reach this you will have to wait till the next day to do the next set. Your paying potential is definitely limited because of this and you will have to grind multiple hours every day to gain a few dollars.

What are the payout methods?

When you reach the minimum threshold for withdrawing your rewards, depending on the site, you will be given a number of options to do this such as Gift cards, discount coupons, or a cash transaction.

Can you actually make a lot of moolah doing this?

To answer this question there are multiple factors to consider and evaluate but the short answer is that you most probably will not.

I did mention the factors to consider, so here are a few:

  • How much time you have to spare doing surveys everyday (You may need over 5 hours to make a decent amount)
  • The platform you are using and their payout type
  • The survey limit for a day
  • How much is offered per survey

A lot of it depends on how reliable the platform you use is. Some tend to pay a decent amount (Around $3 for 30-minute surveys) but you are more likely to find others that only pay around $1 for a 30-minute survey or a $25 gift card for a whole day’s work.

Considering that, do you think you will be able to make a lot of money doing this and even if someone did, how long do you think it is sustainable to keep doing it?

Not long right? Cause who wants to spend a lot of time answering questions about themselves and what they think?

The top reasons to stop doing surveys to make money

1 – Your application could be rejected

If you don’t live in a first world country such as the United States or Canada, you are probably going to find a hard time trying to get your application accepted by top websites. These sites are strictly limited and the rest of the sites that accept you will not pay as well as the best survey sites.

2 – You won’t get surveys to do every day

As you know, there is a limit to the number of surveys you can do every day. But there is also the added disadvantage that there are days where you won’t be able to find any surveys to do at all. This will most likely depend on the site that you are using, but this is the usual case for most websites.

3 – You don’t have a choice!

When you’re doing this type of work you may have to forget about doing something that you actually enjoy because you have to take any work/survey that comes your way whether you like it or not. This plus a low earning rate can be a major turn off to continue working after a few days.

4 – Your earning potential is astronomically low

I mentioned this multiple times before and I will do it again. The amount you earn will never be equal to the amount of time you put into it!

5 – You will forever be stagnant

Think about it like this. You have a set job to do every day. You cannot change the amount you earn per survey and you will be asked a set of questions day in and day out, some of which you will have no interest in at all. Does that sound like the type of work where you will be able to grow and make more money in the future? I don’t think so.

My Verdict

At this point, I think it is fairly obvious where my review lies about working online doing surveys. I would not recommend this method to anyone other than those who are really desperate to earn a little bit of extra cash.

There are a lot of other ways through which you can invest the same amount of time and see results in the long term. If you want my opinion on what I think is the best thing you should be doing is, read the last section below.

What else can you do online to make money?

  1. Work as a freelancer – A freelancer is basically anyone with a skill set that they can use to help businesses with certain tasks such as a creative writer, social media manager, transcriptionist, or graphic designer. These will definitely pay way more than doing surveys and is more sustainable.
  2. Start a business that you can run online – This could be anything from e-commerce to dropservicing and it is really up to you what you end up doing. I know this may seem like quite a bit of effort, and truth be told, it really is. But, by putting the time and effort in at the start, you will be able to build the business into something that will run itself in your sleep, and over time you will be able to relax and watch the money flow into your pockets.

This income stream is made for the long-term and is a lot more sustainable than doing surveys for peanuts every day. If you want to learn more about this and how you start your own business, click here to get all my tips on how to get started and create a sustainable business.
